Hi Ellen, love having a stack of new books to dive into, but doesn’t leave time for much else. πŸ˜‰

Happy New Year and new reading Aileen!

Did you catch the dramatisation of War and Peace on the BBC yesterday? I’m recommending it to everyone I can – it was truly marvellous. 10 episodes – they played it all in one go throughout the day with breaks on the hour for the news (and the loo) and a stop for lunch (and, rather strangely, for The Archers!) You’re in Ireland aren’t you? Not sure if the podcasts are allowed out of the country, but here’s the link to the iPlayer version http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04wz7q2 I think it’s available for 4 weeks.

    All best wishes
    Elaine

Hi Elaine, sounds like a wonderful experience. Sadly, podcast is not available in Ireland. Oh well. Can’t imagine I’d have been left in peace long enough to hear the whole thing anyway.:)

Wishing you a wonderful New Year, Elaine. Looking forward to more of your wonderful posts.

        Hi Aileen – that’s a shame. Maybe it’ll work on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04wz7q2/episodes/guide
It’s worth a try. In the meantime, I just caught a wonderful short video of starlings in a murmuration – do they do this in Ireland? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1Q-EbX6dso It’s beautifully filmed – it looks as if they’ve been trained to put on an aerobatic display!

A very, very happy 2015 to you too

        All best wishes

Hi Elaine, I’ll give the player a try, thanks. Thanks for sharing the clip. Starling murmurations are amazing, aren’t they? They do it here as well, but I’ve never seen one. (I did see a smaller murmuration of knot or dunlin a few years ago. I was out for an evening walk along the beach and they appeared suddenly – a gift from the gods, It was truly breathtaking. I wrote about it here: https://aileenrabbitt.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/im-glad-youre-taking-photos/. There’s another wonderful clip of a murmuration on the River Shannon that’s worth looking at. Two girls canoeing happened upon this one, and the birds swoop so low over them, it’s like being caught in the middle of it. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRNqhi2ka9k

Ooh – thank you so much for the link to the girls on the water – that was magical. We were watching the starlings swooping over the Palace Pier here in Brighton the other day and I was wondering how it would feel standing on the pier and feeling them swoop and dive around you. I’m going to go down tomorrow before dusk and see if I can stand in the right place!

And I’m going to read your post. Thanks so much for the link.

Hope the starlings showed up, Eaine! I love that clip — the expression on the girl’s face at the end is wonderful.

I love a stack of new books! I think that is why my poor Nook sits dusty and unused on my nightstand. I’m just not willing to give up the feel of the pages. Happy reading to you! Karen πŸ™‚

Happy new year. I am quoting The Karamazov Brothers on facebook at the moment, in the hope of being seen as an intellectual.

Hi Clare, you’re quoting Dostoyevsky and Elaine is recommending Tolstoy. Meanwhile, I’m watching rugby and drinking cheap wine.:)

Happy New Year, Clare. So glad we ‘bumped’ into each other. Looking forward to reading more of your work this year. Wishing you all the best.
